The perfume tray was the first metalworking piece I ever made. I made it using cold pressed steel with a digital plasmacutter, MIG welding, and various sanding methods.
I wanted the first thing I designed to be something I would use in my everyday life, and I have a small perfume collection that I thought would be nice to display. I got all of the dimensions of my various bottles and made a plasma cut file that would give them enough wiggle room to be taken in and out but fit snugly.
After plasmacutting, I cut some square stock and round stock with a cold saw and sanded the base plate. From there I welded the square stock and round stock to the feet of the tray before welding them onto the tray itself.
Reflecting on the project after it had been done, I wish I had sanded around the welds more and had a little more experience before I tried a weld at that angle. I struggled to get the exact angle I wanted and because of that my welds were less than ideal. I eventually incorporated a lot of that knowledge into p.04 the Fibonacci Tree.
