Physarum is a genus of slime molds which has been of interest for a long time. Slime molds present a fantastic example of emergent behavior where simple logic rules given to many small actors in a system can produce a complex and dynamic result which interacts with the environment around it more than any one actor is aware of. Slime mold doesn’t have any nervous system, and thus many scientists try to express it in a series of differential equations and simple distributed rules.

Physarum networking isn’t something I still fully understand but scratches the itch of organic algorithmic beauty that I find myself drawn to.
