e.08 Snaking SpeakersFabrication, Physical Computation, Digital, P5.js
Snaking Speakers was a first attempt at audio reactivity with Arduino and P5.js. This eventually became something I was able to do much easier in Touchdesigner, in works like e.09 Light Void. Snaking speakers consisted of four microphones attached to the participants feet and hands, and the wires were in tubing that wrapped around their legs, arms, and torso. The live audio data was sent into arduino where it was parsed and processed. It was then sent into P5.js where it would change the shape, speed, size, and color of the circles based on which speaker was active. I primarily struggled with low speaker quality, the Arduino speakers I picked up weren’t particularly sensitive in terms of reading.
