e.06 Codecs of a LifeDigital, Glitch, Installation
Codecs of a Life was a four channel video installation centered around the loss of memory of mundane aspects of life. It was based around four different glitch compression methods, each specifying in a type of lossy compression, which was meant to mirror the ways in which compression of everyday tasks is experienced. Each video was filmed during a basic task of my day, eating dinner, typing at a keyboard, getting ready for bed. The videos were then distorted with the following techniques.

  1. OpenCV Optical Flow
  2. Sonification
  3. The Glitch Image Codec
  4. h.264 based Datamoshing

Each of these four channels were projected onto a sculpture made of foam core and broken mirrors in the center of the room. The broken mirrors reflected each image up onto the ceiling in fragmented forms, further expressing the removed sections of a life.
